Is it sad that I enjoyed a dream of grocery store comparison shopping where avocados were only 66 cents?

Yesterday evening I was walking down my quiet residential city street when I saw something unusual in the middle of the road up ahead. I am quite myopic so I thought perhaps my eyes were playing tricks on me. Curious, I walked up to it.

My suspicions were confirmed: it was a squirrel lying on its back with its legs in the air. This was a very dramatic pose, considering you find most dead rodents as squished roadkill. After conducting my own crime scene investigation it would appear that the squirrel attempted a jump from the branches of one tall oak to another but missed. Sometime after its death a bird must have pecked its eyes out because its cranial orifices were quite gory.

Strangely, although it had plummeted about twenty feet, the squirrel's body hadn't splattered. Any motorists who had driven this way had had the good sense to avoid the animal. Unfortunately, I didn't have access to a shovel or other implement to move the squirrel to the side of the road or dispose of it.

Fortunately, the majority of the time I leave my street by walking in the opposite direction so I don't have to pass it.

I once read that

Plato fielded several myths of the self divided. In the Symposium, he has Aristophanes argues that "each of us bears like a flatfish, the traces of having been cut in two." Aristophanes' myth ascribes human sexuality to an earlier division, which has left each searching for that which would restore a lost wholeness.

This evening was the first time I've really "missed" since I moved. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I'm almost certain that I'm priced out of being able to afford the flights necessary for me to spend Thanksgiving with my boyfriend and his family. I was so excited yesterday, I had a happy swelling feeling inside of me when I thought I might be able to have a mini-weekend vacation at their lakeside home and spend time with them.

I've never been terribly fond of the crusty end slices of a loaf of bread before (except those of a baguette). However, when I came home this afternoon and unwrapped my freshly-baked whole wheat loaf it just smelled so good. I picked the crusty first slice of this supple bread and ate it, dipping it into a cup of milk. Delicious!
